Gearing explained - Traxxas

Mar 27, 2018 · Gearing explained. What this means is if you select a 17 turn motor you'll want to start with a pinion gear that is 15 tooth. If you select a 15 turn motor start with a 13 tooth pinion. I personally would not recommend you run anything lower than a 17 turn motor in the Slash as it gives you a decent range of gearing to play with.

DIY Ford - Ford Axle Ring and Pinion Assembly How to Guide

A 3.5:1 ratio is a good example because it has a tooth combination of 35 and 10. A common factor of 5 is the tooth combination, but because the pinion with 10 teeth is not a prime number, it requires more than one ring gear revolution to align with the same pinion tooth.

One of the most common questions about gear ratios is: what is the difference between 3.54 and 3.55 or 4.09, 4.10, and 4.11 gears? As our Gear Ratio Calculator explains, the gear ratio is calculated by dividing the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion gear. Since this doesn't always end up in a nice even number ...
